The Big Idea
Badge of Blood is intended to meld the fast paced action of the first person tactical shooter with RPG and character development techniques that will allow players to create engaging, multi-faceted characters that improve in capability over time.
Realistic and Authentic
The Badge of Blood universe is crafted on the idea that videos games, even a genre like the First Person Shooter, can be a rich and rewarding story telling medium; and while Badge of Blood is most certainly a sci-fi story, we endeavor to make sure that our science fiction is grounded squarely in science fact, as we present a world where the technologies and environments are entirely plausible and realistic. Don't expect to find any light sabres or photon torpedos in Badge of Blood!
Character Development
- Experience - Characters will gain experience as the fight on the battlefield, support his or her teammates, and complete objectives.
- Skill Improvements - These experience points can then be used to improve the character's skill sets, and earn qualifications for more advanced battlefield roles. Some of these skills include Firearms, Demolitions, First Aid, Heavy Weapons, and Command & Control
Battlefield Roles
When a player joins a battle, he must choose which battlefield role he or she wants to fill.
- Rifleman - The rifleman is the backbone of any armed force, and the most commonly available battlefield role. Equipped with an assault rifle and some grenades, the Rifleman is where most characters will start their career.
- Grenadier - The grenadier fills the role of squad level, indirect fire support, using an advanced targeting system that allows other characters to provide target coordinates that appear on the grenadier's HUD.
- Automatic Rifleman - Whenever a situation calls for overwhelming firepower, the Automatic Rifleman can put hundreds of rounds down range in no time. Equipped with an LMG and a pistol.
- Combat Engineer - When the task requires more brains than brawn, send forward the combat engineer. He is highly computer savvy, a demolitions expert, and has the ability to support his comrades by deploying inflatable forti-foam fortifications in the field.
- Marksman - The team's long-rifleman, the marksmen has a steady hand and an eagle eye. Equipped with a sniper rifle, his picks off enemy combatants from afar.
- Medic - When you're wounded and bleeding, and your suit is depressurizing, the Medic is your guardian angel. Able to stop bleeding and patch suits, the medic keeps his companions in the fight.
- Officer - Last but not least, the Officer is a capable and crucial team leader. When in Unit Cohesion with an officer, other characters gain experience bonuses as they fight. In addition, some officers have the option of taking an Autonomous Robotic Vehicle as a member of his squad. This ARV acts as a "mule" for the squad, carrying additional ammo, first aid kits, and other supplies from which the officer's team can rearm and equip themselves. The officer is also able to call in airstrikes and/or orbital bombardments.
Realistic Environments
All maps that feature the exterior of mars will be founded on MOLA data collected from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor program. When you're walking along the bottom of the Valles Marineris, or ducking for cover behind a crater ridge in Elysium Planitia, you're doing so behind terrain that mirrors that of the real thing.
